A Modest Selection
July 20th 2010: There is an intersection of consciousness in the cross lines of a grid printed on heavy cardstock. Some overlay of persona inside the printing of a battlefield, a manor house, a spooky town, a battlestar,or a South American island. We play games and they bring us together, binding our perception into little worlds drawn from cards and stacks of tiles. Endless rule books do not confine our creativity, but rather redefine our reality. The world may not be flat, but it seems to fit on a tabletop, at our fingertips, and in our brains. In many opportunities we are given another world, to see and to exist in, but I have many times witnessed the construction of a world, of a nation, of a room. Made by me, by friends, by luck, and by fate. Board games are often the gateways of creation, an engine to fuel fascination, and a key to unlock imagination. This is what I hope to share with you. And jokes, right, I mean honestly the whole business of playing board games is hilarious and more than a little strange. So enjoy the show.
